  • Ssanyu Birigwa, M.S., in Narrative Medicine

Co-Founder & CEO, Narrative Bridge | Creator of the Pause3™ Method | Adjunct Professor, Columbia University

Ssanyu is a bridge between worlds—ancestral wisdom and modern leadership, spiritual care and strategic transformation. Her work lives at the intersection of storytelling, somatic listening, sound meditation, and the reclamation of inner authority.

Born with healing hands, she is the proud descendant of Ugandan bone healers dating back more than 80 generations. Growing up between Newton, Massachusetts and East Africa, she witnessed the clinical precision of Western medicine alongside profound disconnection from ancestral wisdom. After her own health crisis left her partially paralyzed and the death of her uncle and surrogate father, she embarked on a journey to merge these healing paradigms, earning her M.S. in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University and receiving the Narrative Medicine Fellowship in 2017.

As Co-founder and CEO of Narrative Bridge, Ssanyu designs immersive experiences that bring Narrative Medicine into leadership, innovation, and systemic healing. At the center of her practice is the Pause3™ Method—a sacred framework she created that is rooted in her lineage of bone healing and Indigenous medicine. The method honors the wisdom carried in breath, sound, ritual, and remembering, working with the healing frequencies of voice and breath as gateways to authentic leadership.

Over fifteen years, she has guided hundreds of leaders through transformational processes that honor both ancient wisdom and modern innovation. As an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University and lecturer at Columbia Medical School, she teaches and speaks globally—from Kripalu to the Soros Foundation, NYU to Sorbonne Université Paris—about the key role storytelling, sound, and spirituality play in healing.

Her latest offering, The Quantum Bridge, is a YouTube series spotlighting innovations that restore dignity and presence in care spaces. Whether teaching in medical schools, holding space at global retreats, or guiding organizational transformation, she carries the medicine of story and the healing power of voice as portals to embodied leadership.

In Luganda, her name means happiness and joy—a frequency she carries into every room, every breath, and every story she's entrusted to hold.
